From 1st to 7th August, World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is observed globally to highlight the vital role of breastfeeding in ensuring a healthier future for mothers, babies, and communities. For 2025, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) has declared the theme:
"Create Sustainable Support Systems for Breastfeeding"
This year’s theme reminds us that while breastfeeding is a natural and powerful act, it needs consistent, long-term, and system-level support to succeed. Breastfeeding should not be seen as solely the responsibility of mothers it requires backing from families, healthcare providers, workplaces, communities, and policy-makers.
Why Sustainable Support Systems Matter
Breastfeeding provides lifesaving nutrition, strengthens immunity, protects against infections, and fosters bonding. It’s linked to lower infant mortality, improved maternal health, and better long-term cognitive outcomes.
Yet, many mothers stop breastfeeding earlier than planned not because they don’t want to continue, but because the support system fails them. Lack of maternity leave, workplace barriers, poor lactation guidance, and social stigma all contribute to early weaning and stress.
To change this, we must move from short-term awareness to long-term infrastructure and support systems that truly empower breastfeeding journeys.
Our Role at JVD Mettle Innovations
At JVD Mettle Innovations, we are proud to contribute to sustainable breastfeeding ecosystems through:
Setting up Human Milk Banks (HMBs) and Comprehensive Lactation Management Centres (CLMCs)
Supporting over 3 lakh babies annually across India with Pasteurized Donor Human Milk (PDHM)
Designing training programs for hospital staff to provide lactation support that continues beyond discharge
Building awareness through educational content, donor outreach, and community-based programs
Creating Made-in-India pasteurizers and breast pump to ensure cost-effective scaling of human milk support systems
Empowering women to become milk donors, counselors, and healthcare educators
We don’t just install equipment we help build sustainable breastfeeding support structures that last, especially in public health settings and under-resourced areas.
It's Time to Build Systems, Not Just Campaigns
This World Breastfeeding Week, let’s go beyond celebrating breastfeeding. Let’s commit to building support systems that stay in place long after the posters come down.
Because when we create environments that protect, promote, and support breastfeeding sustainably, we not only nourish babies we build stronger, healthier, more resilient societies.
Join the movement. Support the mission.
Let’s build a future where every mother is supported, and every baby thrives.
